Rescue Relay

An active team-building simulation game

How To Play Rescue Relay

Materials Needed

1 Rope per team, one 'life saving' device per team.

Preparation:

1. Tie each life saving device (we used empty cordial bottles) to a separate rope

2. Set out a start line behind which everyone starts.

3. Set out a finish line which is about 10 meters away

Rules

1. One person from each team has to carry the life saving device to the finish line

2. When the device gets over the line they release it and the remaining team has to pull the device back to the start line.

3. When it is all the way back the next person has to repeat the process.

4. The winning team is the one who gets all their team to the finish first.

Notes

1. You want the lines far enough away from each so that the device cannot be thrown back.

2. For large groups have the kids run in pairs, one person on the other person's back.

3. Pick heavier devices - boogie boards, car tyres, real rescue rings, inflatable boats, chairs, tables - to make the activity more challenging.

4. We played it with kids in primary school and they really liked it.

5. I wonder if you could use sturdy old upside down tables (or tyre or something) with a rope on two legs to pull a person sitting in the table from start to finish. Then the remaining people pull the table back and the process is repeated. The last person would get a speedy ride!

Yea, instructions were a bit bad, i agree. Essentially you are just trying to move everyone from one side to the other. Imagine that your group is trapped on one side of a river. They have a flotation device which oner person at a time can use to get to the other side. One person 'floats' to the other side and then the device is pulled back by the remaining group. The process is repeated for each person. It is really just a relay variation which keeps people more involved.
