a set of table topics cards

This is an excellent ice breaker activity in it's simplest form!

If you haven't heard of "Table Topics" before, they are a great tool to use to help people get to know each other and to inspire interesting conversation. They are a set of cards, each with a different question on it, and they come in a variety of different types. The best table topics to use for your youth group, small group or team building activity can be found on Amazon.

Some examples of questions include:

What did you get into trouble for the most when you were young?
In your opinion what are the seven wonders of the world?
Which historical sporting event would you like to witness?
Which is more important intelligence or common sense?
If you could do something dangerous just once with no risk what would you do?
Where would you choose to live if you had to leave this country?
Who's the funniest person you know?
What 5 foods do you wish were banished from the earth?
If you could shop for free at one store which one would you choose?
Would you rather live for a week in the past or the future?

There are a whole heap of ways you could use these cards as an ice breaker game, whether it's for adults, youth or kids. Here are a few ways you could use them.

Mingle & Swap Give each person one card, then get them to line up in two rows standing opposite each other. Give them a couple minutes to ask their question to the person they are facing. Then call time, and get each person to swap cards with the person they just interacted with and then move along the line to the next person. Keep doing this a few times and each person will get a chancer to ask and answer a few different questions to a few different people.

Up the Front Designate a leader or organiser to be a host, and get a few volunteers up from your youth group. Give each person 1-2 minutes and ask them as many questions as you can get through.

Small Group Starter Use them to begin your small group discussion each time you meet. Pick one or two questions and let each person in the group answer and see what kidn of interesting discussion it generates.

This sounds like the game I need for my church youth group. I have some really shy members who are not very vocal. However it would be better if the questions were bible-based.

I welcome ideas and suggestions. 🙂

Where can I get these cards from? I really like this one as it can just be casually done, so as to not even be classified as an activity but just general discussion whilst cooking or hanging out!
