Bible Solving

An icebreaker memory game for junior youth and small groups

How To Play Bible Solving

Materials Needed

Printed pieces of paper
2-5 Minute Timer.

This can be an in-lesson game, or just a game with a lesson. It's a game where you have two bowls - the bowl of "problems" and the bowl of "solutions".
In the bowl of problems, you write problems that teenagers commonly experience (temptation, anger, anxiety, etc). In the bowl of solutions, you have matched bible verses to these issues.
Each student draws a "problem" and a "solution" and they have to go around the room talking to other students to try to find a solution to their problem, and also to help use their solution to solve another's problems.
Once the timer is up, have them read their problem and solution that they wound up with. The cool thing about Bible verses though, is that the kids may wind up with different bible verses than you intended. Because a lot of these Bible Verses solve a lot of these problems!

One thing I recommend is have the problem and solution matched until you know how many kids you have, then separate them accordingly.

Here are some examples you can use:

You may be feeling tempted to do something you know is wrong.

1 Corinthians 10:13
"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

You may feel as though somebody disapproves of you because you are young.

1 Timothy 4:12
12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

You may be scared about something going on in your life right now.

Deuteronomy 31:6
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Your friends may be bad-mouthing somebody or something, and you’re trying to decide whether you should too.

Ephesians 4:29
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

You may be wondering what your purpose is in life.

Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

You may be in trouble for not listening to your parents about something.

Exodus 20:12
12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

You may always feel like you’re always working hard for others or for yourself.

Galatians 6:9
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

You may be wondering how to stay pure in a really dirty world.

Psalm 119:9
9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.

You may feel lost.

Psalm 119:105
105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

You may be feeling hopeless.

Romans 15:13
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

You may be feeling fearful or anxious about a situation you’re going through.

Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

You may feel that God is guiding you to do something you are afraid or don’t want to do.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

You may be feeling tired and burdened by life and the people in it.

Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Isaiah 40:29-31
29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Everyone else might be interested in stuff that you know is wrong.

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

You may be wondering God loves all different race, occupation, gender, etc.

Galatians 3:28 ESV
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

This is a brilliant idea! Shoutouts to the creator, Shaelyn! It's one thing to tell the youth that the Bible is the answer to every problem in life, but you're showing it in a fun and interactive way.
