Bible Drill

A relaxed memory game for large groups

How To Play Bible Drill

Materials Needed

a Bible for each person playing (preferably with no tabs on them to make it fair)

When youth leader says "draw weapons", each person sits on a pew or chair with their Bible held up in air with binding facing them (this is to keep people from putting their fingers IN the Bible while hold it up so there is no cheating).

The youth leader then calls out a scripture (i.e. John 3:16), makes everyone cite it back to him and then will say "Charge". As soon as "charge" is said, everyone tries to find that scripture in the Bible. The first person to find the scripture AND have their finger on the verse will stand up and start saying the scripture, if they are right, he gets one point. Play to whatever amount of points you would like - have a gift or a pat on the back for winner. (My kids usually are just happy to be a winner, they don't care about a gift)

We absolutely LOVE this game and it's a good builder for the group because they learn the books of the Bible and where things are found.

VARIATION: Play the same way but use a Concordance to pick verses that have the same "keyword" in them (i.e. pure). First person to guess the word that is showing up in all verses gets an extra point - then pick a new "keyword". (That way, everyone has to LISTEN to the verses that are being found)

Hope you enjoy playing as much as I have through the years!!

I know the game ,Sword Drill. I use to play it last year at International Academy of Suriname{ IAS } with Mrs.Mohamed the 3rd grade teacher. She is a really fun teacher, and she taught us very well. I got straight A’s. She even gave us lots of present, it was a happy year!

I grew up playing this game, but we called it a sword drill. We also got extra points for our team if we could recite the verse from memory instead of having to locate it in the Bible.

Just played this game with my Youth, I changed it a little bit, so when I say the verse, I hide somewhere on the church campus and they have to find the verse and then find me and tell me the verse. It was a blast!

I learnt this on a bible camp in Australia and we had our bibles on our heads, later a fellow from England showed us the same game but called it Draw your swords and we put the bible under our armpits, but some of the youth with sweaty armpits refused to play after a few rounds, mostly everyone enjoys it

I love the concept of "Draw you weapons!" I might even use that phrase whenever i want youth to get out their Bibles! The Word of God is our sword after all!
