Oh, don't worry, the balls can be any spherical object...we changed this into a 'messy game' and played it with rotten apples...the mums loved us for getting rid of their old fruit, you can only make so many apple muffins!

As if a ball crawl could ever be boring - so much potential for things to do... ball crawl chasey, ball crawl hide and seek, ball crawl marco polo, ball crawl battles - and the list goes on!!

u must have a really small hall because the hall at my church would take so many balls just to get it at a decent height plus what would u do with all the balls after the night?? and secondly the leaders would have to clean up and that would take ages...

Finding the right sized room is the first challenge - can't be too big to fill with millions of balls, and can't be too small or no one will fit in it...
And what to do with all the balls at the end of the night? I'd say get the kids to take them home again? Or just fill some garbage bags up with them and keep them for next time?

We played this at my youth group and left the balls in the hall for the creche to use on Sunday. The mums were able to throw their kids in and go enjoy the sermon while their kids tried to find the way out. The best bit is we didn't have to have any creche volunteers; the balls did all the hard work!
Extreme ball crawl= building the faith of mothers and reducing the numbers of volunteers :D
A winner all round Shorty, great idea! Have you considered this as a business idea? Would be a real winner!

I think this game sounds crazy too. You would need a very specific kind of hallway to play this and I can tell you right now, there is no way we would be able to get that many balls.

For anyone who has tried the snake version, this game just gets even more extreem when you forget about the balls and just use the live snakes on the floor. This is great for high energy kids that just can't sit still. Another variation is to add live mice and a couple of cats and have the kids try to rescue the mice!

sure sure as if you would get live snakes and mice!! ever heard of animal cruelty not to mention danger to the youth!!
we did the ball crawl years ago at youth group but with hundreds of balloons filled with words to make up a bible verse.... the aim was to find the balloons with the paper inside, pop them and then as a group put the sentence together... was great fun but very time consuming for preparation! the youth loved it especially when we turned out the lights.. small room def works better tho!

I wanted to try this thing at my youth, but we live in a low socio economic area and cant afford balls or snakes. So we just got the rest of the congregation to turn up and curl up into balls and had a ball crawl through the people. It worked really, but everyone was really sweaty afterwards.
We also used it as an opportunity to baptise some of the kids in the sea of church peeps.

I tried the live snakes. It did not go over as well as I thought it would.

I can't see how this would last all night. 10 minutes perhaps

We did this game but instead of balls and live snakes we put all the balls in the snake (it was an Anaconda). Then we would put youth in the snake and they would have to ball crawl out of the snake before it digested them.
It was also really great because we didn't have to give supper to as many kids at the end of the night.

I tried this at my youth group and it worked REALLY well.
We decided to spice things up a bit and add live snakes to the ball crawl- really helped the kids burn up some of their excess energy.
:D
